About the Internship
National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is one of Taiwan's most iconic landmarks and a comprehensive museum, welcoming millions of visitors from Taiwan and around the world each year. Opened in 1980 to commemorate former President Chiang Kai-shek, who passed away in 1975, the Memorial Hall has evolved alongside Taiwan's democratic development. Today, its mission is to promote democratic education through exhibitions, lectures, workshops, film screenings, and other public programs.
This internship program offers international students (including foreign nationals and Taiwanese students studying abroad) the opportunity to intern at the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, providing practical experience in democratic education, museum education, and the management of cultural institutions.
Internship Responsibilities
- Participate in departmental meetings and gain an understanding of museum operations, project planning, and cultural institution management.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of exhibitions and democratic education programs, including lectures, workshops, and film screenings.
- Assist with guided tours for international visitors and school groups in English and other languages.
- Assist with translation and proofreading of English-language materials, including exhibition texts and promotional materials.
- Support international outreach and communication with overseas visitors, scholars, and partner institutions.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the internship, interns will be able to:
- Gain hands-on experience in museum education and exhibition planning.
- Understand the history of Taiwan's democratization and the principles of transitional justice.
- Develop public speaking and presentation skills through guided tours and visitor engagement.
- Strengthen intercultural communication and teamwork skills.
- Enhance professional English and/or Mandarin communication skills through practical, real-world experience.
Upon acceptance, selected candidates will work with their supervisors to define specific internship projects and responsibilities.
Duration
The minimum number of hours required for a student to complete the internship is 200 hours and at least 2 months. The Memorial Hall is committed to offer a part-time / full-time internship or a flexible internship schedule whenever possible.
No Compensation
This internship is unpaid. Interns are responsible for arranging and covering their own accommodation, meals, transportation, and other living expenses throughout the duration of the internship. Applicants are to be responsible for obtaining all necessary insurance coverage needed during the internship period.
Agreement and Certificate
Once the application is approved, if an internship agreement from the applicant's school is required, The Memorial Hall will review the content with the applicant and proceed with the signing of relevant documents.
After the internship concludes, an internship certificate detailing the total hours completed will be issued upon request, based on the intern's actual needs.
How to apply?
Eligibility
International students currently enrolled in a university, college, or other higher education institution in Taiwan or abroad.
Taiwanese students currently enrolled in a university, college, or other higher education institution overseas are also eligible to apply.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Students demonstrating proficiency in Mandarin will be given priority (not required). Good command of English is required.
- Interest in democracy education, memorial institutions, museums, and cultural heritage sites.
Application Timeline
Students may apply at any time throughout the year. However, applications should be submitted at least three months before the intended start date to allow The Memorial Hall sufficient time to review and process the application.

The documents are to be primarily in Mandarin or English. Where documents are in other languages, Mandarin or English translations are to be provided.

- A letter of recommendation from a professor or a previous internship supervisor
- Proof of enrollment from your university
- A valid passport and visa (the Memorial can assist with the visa application process)
- Other supporting documents relevant to the purpose of the internship
- Application by Recommendation from a Professor or a University
- Applicants recommended by schools are to have the school (or department) complete and submit the Internship Application Form under official cover to the Office, along with its list of recommended students as well as the curriculum vitae, autobiography (including major elements of academic and professional experience), and internship plan for said individuals.
