Cloistered Corridors
The corridors that run along the inside perimeter of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall grounds are 5.5 meters tall and total 1,200 meters in combined length. The roofs are covered with the same type of Chinese blue-glazed tiles found on the roofs of the memorial’s main hall and archways, reflecting each other.
As you walk through these corridors, check out the silver-color patterns painted onto the roof beams. Take a seat on one of the benches and gaze through the beautiful decorative latticed windows of different shapes, which peer out onto busy Xinyi, Hangzhou, and Aiguo roads.
During the hot summer months these corridors offer cooling shade, and as well offer refuge whenever it rains. People will also come here to play chess and practice on their musical instruments, creating a cultured, poetic ambience.
