Japanese Cherry Blossom Area
The four varieties of Japanese cherry blossoms planted in the park are Prunus lannesiana (Tairyo-zakura), P. speciosa (Oh-kanzakura), P. kanzakura Rubescens (Shuzenjikan-zakura), and P. lannesiana (Kawazu-zakura), all of which were donated by the Japan-China Friendship Association.
The flowers of these four species are larger than those of the cherry blossoms native to Taiwan and range through degrees of pink in color, blooming from around mid-February each year. In recent years, this space of carefully cultivated Japanese flowering cherry trees has become a convenient place in the middle of Taipei to enjoy cherry blossoms. If you’ve ever wanted to get a taste of Japanese-style cherry blossom viewing, this is a must-visit.
